These are mostly bluegill, but the processors don't differentiate between the various species of sunfish, so they are labeled as sunfish.

Breaded Bluegill Fillets

These arrived all the way to Florida, still fully frozen. Deep fried perfection in three minutes to golden brown. For my taste, I would prefer less breading as it was pretty thick. It seemed to cover the flavor of the bluegill, making it quite bland instead of the robust flavor I expected.

I tried Walleye Direct for the first time last month. The website is user friendly and my only difficulty was choosing from so many favorites. I ordered walleye, perch, and bluegill. They arrived solidly frozen and well packed. I tried the bluegill and perch first. Both were breaded and the filets were good sized. I heated up my frier with canola oil and dropped a few filets of both in. They browned up perfectly in about 4 minutes. Both had excellent flavor and were moist and tender inside. I will definitely be back for more when I finish this order!!!

I normally don't buy breaded fish but since I love bluegill and perch, I popped for an order of these. Since I don't deep-fry anything, I have tried to bake these, spray them with PAM, etc. But, that tactic produced fish that was too dry. I think that these bluegill would be best deep-fried, but would love some alternative recipes if anyone has them.

I have the same complaint the boxes are labeled sunfish - I ordered the bluegill. Iknow it is part of the sunfish family but not all sunfish are blue gills. 2nd the breading was thicker than the fish. I did enjoy the walleyes.

I gave it four stars because the breading on the fillets seemed to overwhelm (cover) the taste of the fish. Not sure what brand it is, and perhaps folks in the midwest like it very well. My wife and I both agreed to try something different, so she rinsed the breading off with cold water and rolled them in Panko breaded seasoning. A huge improvement and the fish taste as good as I remember. Maybe it's just personal preference, but a great product just as well.

I read reviews and I thought so what if it has a little more breading, I like reading, but even for me we tried everything, all the different ways to prepare it, it felt like we are eating bread instead of fish. Plus sides still have bones in them, not something you want in fish when it is coated and you can't see it. I have one more groupon, but not buying it again, even if it means I am loosing my money on it.

Since these fillets are thin, they would be better if you changed the breading to Mies Products, inc. quality breading.
These breaded fillets are NOT boneless, as I prefer boneless fillets.

The bluegill fillets were not worth the cost for the product. Did not enjoy the breading on the fiilets. I do enjoy the battered dip walleye. I would not order the breaded bluegill fillets again.

When I ordered the breaded bluegill fillets, I thought I would get breaded bluegill fillets, but instead, I received lightly breaded sunfish fillets. I know you have told me that they are technically all part of the same family. My question for you is: why then do you sell some products that are labeled sunfish/bluegill and another product just bluegill? You are confusing your customers.
Secondly, your web site is misleading, the fish shipped to me was in a box labeled Riverside Foods in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
Aside from the confusion stated above, when I made my first batch of fish in the fryer, several of the pieces were like a piece of cardboard, and I am not exaggerating. Other than the pieces that were like cardboard, the other pieces were fair. Most people would ask for a refund at this time.
At this time I do not know if I will be ordering anymore; certainly if I run into more cardboard like pieces, that would be the end.
